This beautiful screen would be gorgeous in any home, business, or restaurant. The top and cross-bars are made with Wenge; the vertical bars are Cherry with Padauk and/or Wenge inlay. The middle sections are Cherry boards cut into ¼” slats and glued into the cross-bar. Cherry was also used as a decorative insert on the ends of each cross-bar. Mortise and tenon type joinery was used to connect the cross-bars with the corresponding vertical bar. The top panel of fabric is a Chinese silk print, with an organza underlining for stability; the lower fabric is silk douppioni. Fabrics are attached to a 3/16″ dowel and glued into a ¼” groove. Double leather strips with brass nails join the three panels at the lower cross-bars. The frame is finished with a clear coat of Shellac and several coats of a clear oil/urethane semi-gloss finish.
This screen was entered in the Texas Furniture Makers Show, Kerrville, Tx - and won the ‘Best Apprentice’ award at the show!
